About the Southwest Light Rail Green Line Extension
Rapid growth in the southwest metro area is putting more demands on our existing roads and transit systems. By 2030, cities in this area are expected to add 55,000 residents and 83,000 jobs.

The Southwest Light Rail Green Line Extension, a 14.5-mile light rail line with 16 stations serving Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie, will connect to the existing Green and Blue lines at the Target Field Station in Downtown Minneapolis.

Heavy construction will occur from 2019 to 2022, followed by testing of the system. The Green Line Extension is expected to begin passenger service in 2023. Once open, it’s expected to see weekday ridership of 34,000.

Hopkins will have three stations on the line.
